About AirspaceLab
A free 3D trainer for student pilots, built so airspace finally makes sense before you fly it.
Why we built it
Sectional charts squeeze a three-dimensional world onto flat paper. The Class B "upside-down wedding cake", Class E floors at 700 and 1,200 ft, and shelves that change every few miles are hard to picture from numbers on a chart. AirspaceLab draws the real FAA airspace in 3D over the real sectional, so you can rotate it, fly through it and see exactly where the floors and ceilings are.
What you can do
- Explore Class B, C, D and E airspace, MOAs and restricted areas anywhere in the US, with live ADS-B traffic.
- Fly a Cessna 172S from ramp to ramp: ATIS, taxi clearances, takeoff, the traffic pattern with other airplanes, landing and parking.
- Train with guided missions and ACS-style checkrides that score airspace violations, cloud clearance and aircraft limits as they happen.
- Plan cross-country flights with a nav log, and practice night, special VFR and weather diversions.
- Study for the FAA private pilot knowledge test with practice exams and spot questions that fly you to the airspace they ask about.
- Learn the airplane on the aircraft controls page: flight controls, the pitot-static system, gyros, engine and radios.
Real data
Airspace, airports and runways come from FAA AIS open data. Charts are the FAA VFR sectional and terminal area charts. Weather is from aviationweather.gov, terrain from AWS open terrain tiles, and live traffic from the adsb.lol and adsb.fi community feeds.
Not for navigation
AirspaceLab is a study aid. It is not FAA approved, it does not replace instruction from a CFI, and it must never be used to plan or conduct a real flight. Always check current charts, the Chart Supplement, NOTAMs and TFRs.
